Section 1

UAL expects 66% of your time to be working with staff on this production and 34% of your time to be spent working independently on this production. Therefore your timetabled Independent Study sessions are really vital to enable you to put in the level of work expected by the awarding body for a level 3 qualification.

Units being covered by these productions

Unit 12: Extended Project (46 credits)

  • Performances
    • Production 1 (‘The Edge of Terra Mort): 22nd / 23rd / 24th / 25th April 2020; times to be confirmed; in the STEM Innovation Centre abandoned factory hangers
    • Production 2 (‘Around the World in 80 Days’): 5th /6th / 7th / 9th May (no show Fri 8th May);  7.30 pm;  in Conservatoire EAST theatre (matinee to be confirmed)
    • Production 3 (‘Bad Girls: The Musical’): 20th / 21st / 22nd / 23rd  May 2020 7.30 pm;  in Conservatoire EAST theatre (matinee, to be confirmed)
  • WordPress will be checked every other week by your assessor and you should receive ongoing feedback. If you do not receive feedback in the form of comments on your WordPress site and if you do not have a 1-1 progress review with them at some point during this time please contact your Course Director Helena Rudd.
    • Completion deadline for all WordPress work. REMINDER: if you do not complete all the required work by this date, any non-submitted work will cap your grade at a Pass.

Section 2

OVERVIEW OF THIS COMMISSION

You will be auditioning for a part in any one of the three productions making up the Summer Season. Auditions will take place on the Monday and Tuesday of the week of 24th February and normal timetable will be collapsed for these auditions.

Production 1: ‘The Edge of Terra Mort’ by Erica Dupuy; directed by Erica Dupuy; movement / choreography Helena Rudd

Production 2: ‘Around the World in 80 Days’ by Jules Verne, adapted for the stage by Laura Eason; directed by Poppy Stevens; choreography Robert Andrews

Production 3 ‘Bad Girls: The Musical’ Book by Maureen Chadwick and Ann McManus, Music and Lyrics by Kath Gotts; directed by Han Schofield, Musical Direction Claire Bostock

The Directors will simultaneously audition all students and you will be cast by them in one of their productions. Once cast, you will rehearse with your director in the Season rehearsals in order to prepare your production for public performance.

In addition to practical rehearsals you will ALSO be required to carried out research as well as contribute to the non-performance aspect of this production, through costume, set, props, music editing, marketing etc. Your production will require a lot of collaboration, work and effort and you need to fully understand not only the production and performance skills, which are relevant and required but also the content and context.

You MUST maintain ongoing evidence of the researchpractical skillsevaluation and reflection you are undertaking on the relevant WordPress site pages and blogs.

You must ALSO identify and show your understanding of the context in which your production is being developed, rehearsed and performed on your relevant WordPress site page.

Section 3

WSC ASSESSMENT APPEALS PROCEDURES 04.04.01 – synopsis (for more details ask Personal Support Tutor or Course Director Helena Rudd)

All appeals must be received in writing within ten working days of the student being informed of the assessment decision and should be addressed to the: Chair of the Assessment Appeals Board (Vice Principal Curriculum and Quality), West Suffolk College, Out Risbygate, Bury St Edmunds Suffolk IP33 3RL

There are only two sets of circumstances in which the decision of a course team may be changed by a higher authority within the College. These are:

  • Material error or irregularity, which may occur in the following circumstances:
    • if there has been an administrative error
    • if the assessment process was not conducted in accordance with the programme or College regulations
  • Personal circumstances not known to the assessors or course team.
  • A student may not contest a grade unless either of the above two conditions have been met.

  1. Scenario is clear, accurate unit details are shown, clear deadlines are given. The language, presentation and timescale is appropriate for Level 3, Year 2 learners. Overall, the assignment is fit for purpose.
