PRACTICAL SKILLS – Spring Shows 2020

This is where you need to provide evidence of you DOING things. Therefore, your evidence will predominantly be video and audio files.

It is really important that you are not precious about this evidence and that you do not avoid publishing evidence showing you working at something or trying things out. We need to be able to track your developing skills over the progression of this production.

For EVERY rehearsal you have, whether independent, individual, group or scheduled with a director you MUST gather this evidence. It is your responsibility and not the tutor’s to gather this evidence and to publish it to YouTube before adding the files to this page on your WordPress site.

Make sure you title the videos, date them and give a brief description of what the content shows and copy this information underneath each video you publish to your site.

When you are publishing group evidence you MUST identify at what points and for how long you appear in each clip. (E.g. video 1 03:16 – 05:22; 07:03 – end of clip)

Your assessor will not have time to watch through the full clip due to the volume of evidence that they are expected to assess.

Practical skills UAL definition: the ability to use practical and technical skills and knowledge to explore, adapt and effectively communicate ideas in the realisation of identified goals

Fail: Limited range of processes demonstrated, judgement and execution of techniques is poor.

Pass: Adequate range of processes, skills and knowledge demonstrated. Competent execution and application of techniques used to develop ideas.

Merit: Consistent and appropriate processes, skills and knowledge applied to extend enquiry and develop creative solutions.

Distinction: In depth understanding and aesthetic awareness, imaginative and flexible processes, skills and knowledge applied in extensive enquiry to develop creative solutions.

The above statements are guides to how evidence for the final unit (12) will be assessed. Tutors will let you know in their feedback how your evidence for this unit compares to these achievement standards so that you are aware of the level you are currently working at.

29/11/19 Showman Audition- Time beginning to end-

29/11/19 Ringmaster- Time beginning to end-

29/11/19 Cursed child- Time from beginning to end-

29/11/19 saviour child- Time from the beginning to end

This was our first plot plan we did on the 04/12/19 there will most likely be some changes to this.

04/12/19- Time from beginning to end- this was me and my partner doing a back stand. This is probebly not a greate video as there was a lot of wobberling ad not a great finish however this was a good start.

04/12.19- Time from beginning to end- This was a good vedio showing Helana talking us through the lift. I feel with face expression this could look really cool.

05/12/19- Time from begging to end- this was our first time rerhersing the human whell as you can see it brakes when I get to the middle as as i didnt have enough body tension to hold the waigh.

05/12/19- Time from the beginning to the end- We rehersed the human wheel a lot today and the outcome became better with practice.

05/12/19- Time from beginning to end in all these vedios- these was some of my better videos as we held if quite strong for only a little bit of practise.

05-12-19- time from beginning to end- this is me doing an overhead cartwheal. this was the first time I have every done this lift so it was a good first try i think.

05/12/19- time from begginging to end- This shows a fail as i fall of megans arm soing a arm spin. however it was still fun to experiment with lifts and tricks.

06/12/19- time from beginning to end- As you can see from this clip me and my partner tryed to do the back balence again and it went much better today this clearly sghows that the practice is comeing nin very handy, I feel like as we are spening so much time on tricks they are actually looking much better.

this was a picture we was basing are comfort and confidence off of. I feel like at this point in the show i was definatly more in the groyth zone for the lifts however still learning.

11/12/19- Time from beginning to end- this was the round air walk with my partner. I feel like this was something I got right away and we found fearly easy.

11/12/19- Time from 00:00- 00:14 – This is the video of the first time I tried the Angle star lift. I found this quite hard as I didn’t feel that safe. this will be nothing I have to work on if this is choreographed into a number.

11/12/19- Time from beginning to end- this was something my partner found difficult as she didn’t like getting lifted. this was a big accomplishment for her as she really didn’t like it.

11/12/19- Time from beginning to end- in this video you can see me perform a a fan over shoulder lift. this is something I have done before so was able to teach my partner. I feel like we got this pretty quick as she was very strong witch made us work well together.

11/12/19- time from beginning to end- This was me then developing the over shoulder fan lift in to a held turn v lift. this is again nothing I felt we was quite good at as we was able to turn the lift fealty quickly whilst still being balanced.

12/12/19- Time from beginning to end- today we did a large focus on the human circle pull. This took us various attempts and really took some time to get clean. This is something that will be added to the show so we need to work on it to make sure we can all do it. This trick will only work if everyone trys and really pulls their weight. Here is the playlist of many videos of us trying. As you can see we tried big circles and smaller ones witch was more practical. After trying we decided it would look cooler with two circles as we could make it look like a plus as such.

13/12/19- This was the basic outline of the prologue and how it would be run. I feel like this will work well However, we have to bear in mind that this may change as if there are p[arts of the story this clash or don’t make enough clearance for the audience to understand this may change. I feel this is a good start.

13/12/12- This is the images of the baby dolls that will resemble this children for the prologue. I feel once they are wrapped in the blanket it will look every effective. Furthermore we are still on the hunt for a cot so this will have to be there next thing we need to look for.

16/12/19- Time from beginning to end- This was us learning the beginning section of dance for the opening dance brake A . This is something for me that will need a lot of work on and cleaning.

16/12/19- Time from beginning to end- This was us learning the beginning section of dance for the opening dance brake B. I think will need some cleaning as well.

17/12/19- We have luckily found a cot that will be more than satiable for the show. This is really good as it means we can start to work with the probs from quite early on, this will be really beneficial as we will have a lot of rehearsal with them.

06/1/20- 00:58 to end- This was the first layout for the opening. When we are all walking we will be doing many tricks and flips. We just needed to rehearse them and be properly warm.

06/1/20- We ran over the opening a few times to count how many counts wear left in music and also how we would incorporate the duet with the showman and ringmaster and if there music would fit. Hear is the playlist link to all the videos of the opening section. you can see how messy it really is but its a good start. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLE73Z0S7Hm2kuAMhB2645fEhuTjTI4aol&fbclid=IwAR1Cy4TC3zQZvET2r6pmxsA1e0rQ12MZD4gJ5YX3a-FBtyq0E2xPD8evmLA

  • video 1- Time from 00:50- end
  • Video 2- Not in just the monkeys
  • Video 3- Time from 00: 50- 1:30
  • video 4- Time from 00:58- end
  • video 4- Time from 00:12- 00:48
  • Video 5- Time from 01:00- end- in this video we decided that it would only be certain people doing the dance brakes. I was part of the group witch I was really happy with. Furthermore we adapted in the duet really nicely by going into a feezframe on the outside. I think if we was all in word positions this would look really creep and cool. This may have to be something to mention to the group.
  • Video 6- Time from beginning to end- we then wanted to add another dance brake so we tried to add it in you can see this added on the this video

06/1/20- Time from 00:50- end this was our final run through of the day and we did everything we had so far for that number. I think with work it could look really cool. I also no that I will need to work on learning the A and B dance brakes.

08/01/20-Time from beginning to end- Today we learned a new dance number. this was going to our respond to just after the curse has happened. Meaning we have forgot who the children are. I think this works really well, I feel we just need to show it on our face more.

08/01/20- Time from beginning to end- in this video you can see us rehearsing the Human wheel in this video it brakes as I found there was no body tension so it was really hard to keep going.

08/01/20- Time from beginning to end- However in this vedio it worked much better and there was a lot more body tension witch made it a lot easier.

20/01/20- Time from beginning to end- Today we started to choreograph the dance brakes. I found this was really fun however, in this you can see in the beginning I was struggling with time. I feel like this can be fixed with just some practice.

20/01/20- Time from beginning to end- I feel like this run went a bit better with timing. I feel like I need to bear in mind this was us learning it so its going to be well off perfect.

23/01/20- Time from beginning to end- Today we worked on choreography for the battle before the curse. This was Jesses work and it looked really cool. I picket this up fearly quickly. I feel like we need to work on getting the lines much straighter as it would look a lot cleaner.

23/01/20- Time from beginning to end- this was everything put together that we worked on for this rehearsal.

28/01/20- Time from beginning to end- Today we ran a lot of different dances to see what they look like together and what’s still missing (witch was a lot missing).

29/01/20- Time from beginning to end- Today we worked on the split with the showman and the ringmaster. this is starting to look really cool. Although the angles may need to be changed I think this will look really good.

26/01/20- Today we spent the hole day doing Fies wood dance. This was working really well. We haven’t figured out who will be wearing tap shoes but I think it will be very effective.

28/01/20- Time from beginning to end- This is a playlist of todays rehearsal we worked on the snow dance. Witch is also us dancing with licra fabric. I found we worked really well together

03/02/20- Time from beginning to end- Today we worked on another world of the adventure. This was the Beatle dance we are yet to finish it but its a good start.

04/02/20- This is the finishing result of the split it looks really cool and a lot cleaner then the start.

05/02/20- This is they layout of the stage now they tickets are on sale you can really see how ,much room we have.

06/02/20- this is the playlist to out full fun today. We n noticed there is still a lot of gaps with choreography and timing issues witch need to be sorted asap. however this a good to no as it means we are running over everything and getting a tie set.

  • video 1- Time from 00:50- end
  • Video 2- 02:12- end
  • Video 3- Time from beginning to end
  • video 4- Time from beginning to end
  • video 5- Time from 03:00- end
  • video 6- Time from beginning to end

06/02/20- Time from beginning to end- For the second half of the day we got to work with Amado and set there part with a small bit of choreography. This dance is showing the time laps of 16 years and how the children are grown up also that the ringmasters groupe have been on the look for us.

10/02/20- Today we spent the hole morning with Tony Kelly who was photograph we got some really lovely photos of the show. We all managed to work really well and quicks so we had time for 2 runs of the show today as well. witch are in the link below.

12/02/20- And finally this was our last dress run before media filmed I feel this went very well actually and there wasn’t many mess ups.

  1. Leah – you have mentioned how up to date you are with your practical skills in your planning document but I can’t see any of it here – should there be a link here to another page or document that you have forgotten to upload? please get this up ASAP.

  2. As you have said you have put this on the wrong site *( your year 1 site), so you need to get your evidence over to here.

  3. ROLE: Ensemble
Leah, during the Quircus rehearsal process you showed consistency and an ability to apply appropriate processes, skills and knowledge in order to develop creative solutions. You gained a wider range of physical skills (partnering, tumbling techniques, different dance styles, working with a prop etc.) and you contributed to the development of creative solutions. Your work very clearly meets the Merit standard set by UAL for this category. Moving forwards, try and be more confident about what you have to offer and be assertive in sharing your thoughts and ideas. Directors sometimes need more offers to be made; they may not always take them up but it can be reassuring for them to know that there are people in the Company who are able to suggest creative solutions and imaginative ideas.

  4. Well done Leah, overall this is high merit level work! What you could do to improve this type of work in the future is to turn your observations into SMART actions that you set yourself to complete, in order to improve your production/process. These could be entered into your planning documents in a different colour, as additional actions you have set yourself, as a result of you reflecting on your progress.
