Context – Preparing for Progression

Section 1 Rationale:

This section is your opportunity to reflect on, review and summarise who you are as a developing practitioner (by understanding this you will make sounder judgements about what and where you should progress to for further training):

Carry out a detailed analysis of your own:

  • skill sets (physical, technical, interpretative / performance)
    • strengths
    • areas you will need to develop if you are going to achieve your ambitions
  • personality / character traits
    • strengths
    • areas you will need to develop if you are going to achieve your ambitions

You may wish to lay this out in a table format – there are suggested templates you can use – these are published on the Progression Facebook group

Section 2 Concept: (approx. 500 words)

This section is your opportunity to clearly show your understanding of your intended career path and to give an overview of the different routes you might follow to achieve this

CONTEXT – UAL definition: The level of intellectual analysis, critical evaluation and understanding of the self and the broader context within which the extended or collaborative project is situated

Fail

Limited understanding of subject context, lacking clarity in aims and    purpose.

Pass

Understanding of subject context used appropriately to make judgments, describe aims and clarify purpose.

Merit

Good understanding and knowledge of subject context used to make sound judgments, articulate ambitions and clarify purpose.

Distinction

Comprehensive understanding and knowledge of subject context used to communicate complex concepts, articulate ambitions and clarify purpose

The above statements are guides to how evidence for the final unit (12) will be assessed. Tutors will let you know in their feedback how your evidence for this unit (10) compares to these achievement standards so that you are aware of the level you are currently working at.
